What Can I Expect From A Session?

We will begin with a chat. Normally it's a meandering converstation where we will discuss your issue (goals or fears) and decide how best to approach the changes you wish to make. We will discuss what suggestions you would like to hear, i.e. what changes you wish to see in your life, or what 'seeds you would love to see grow'..

Then I will ask you to get comfortable, using a reclining chair, footstool and blanket. At this point I will help you to relax by guiding you into hypnosis and from then on all you have to do is listen and enjoy the relaxation. I'll be talking to you for about 30-40 minutes and using your suggestions throughout. When I'm finished with the hypnosis I will count you back into the conscious state of awareness, you'll open your eyes easily and you'll feel totally 'normal', maybe even a little chilled out. We'll have a short debrief-style chat, and within minutes you'll feel completely alert, and ready to take on the day.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

During hypnosis a professional (certified) hypnotherapist will induce a state of 'trance', which in simple terms is a heightened state of focus or concentration. The trance-like state you enter may appear very similar to sleep, but you are not sleeping, you are fully aware of everything that is going on around you. Your hypnotherapist will do this by guiding you through a few simple processes – which could include focusing on your breath, asking you to visualise something specific, verbal queues, and a lot of repetition.

What Is The Difference Between Hypnosis And Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is the tool, and hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of that tool.

What Is The Difference Between The Conscious, Subconscious And Unconscious Mind?

Think of an iceberg, the conscious is like the tip which governs your logic and reasoning, your thinking and communication; the subconscious is like the middle part, pretty big and very important as this is where all of our memories are stored – the subconscious is responsible for the things we do without 'thinking' about it, such as brushing your teeth without any major concentration; and the unconscious is like the large mass below the surface, it's like a huge internal database. The unconscious runs deep, and most of its content is unpleasant and even unacceptable for us to be aware of, such as deep feelings of pain, anxiety or conflict.

In hypnosis we work with the subconscious mind.

Why Would I Seek The Help of Hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy (using hypnosis) can help you do whatever it is that you are afraid of, or whatever it is that you wish you could do. Hypnotherapy will 'plant the seeds', so to speak, during your trance-like state, then with time and awareness of those seeds, you will see those *seeds take root and grow.. And soon you will reap what you sow. *Suggestions is the technical term for seeds! Hypnotherapy can also clear the way for deeper processing of previous events, such as trauma (mental, emotional or physical). Your conscious (active) mind may be too busy or scared to deal with these events, so the hypnosis can act as a bridge to understanding and acceptance. Hypnotherapy can also help someone access their deepest wisdom, which can help you with making decisions that you're struggling with. You know those times in life when you find yourself saying “I just don't know what to do”? Accessing your inner wisdom, in this way, will provide you with the most honest, and authentic, guidance.

 A note from Toni..

Hypnotherapy is a brilliant tool, and it is so powerful, but in some cases it works best as a complimentary form of treatment. Think of hypnosis as a supplement, that works best in conjunction with many other factors. I am not a trained medical professional, that is why I always advise that you seek the advice and support of a medical professional, like your GP or mental health specialist, and look into possible 'full-time' forms of therapy also. Do some research and ask plenty of questions. I am always here to help and guide you, as best as I can.
